Processing.js

There's a new page up for Processing.js, with better documentation and resources. Processing.js is a javascript library that you can link to on a web page that will let you run processing code directly in a page, without having to embed it as an ugly, slow-loading, boxed in java applet. (applets drive me crazy, if I was ok with sticking applets inside pages I would just learn flash like everyone else).

Create Digital Motion - Field: Digital Movement and Visual Expression, a Rich Open Source, Code Visual Framework

Field is a really exciting new graphics and animation tool for the Mac that gives you both a processing-style programmatic environment for building visuals and and GUI tools for editing them. Beyond that, it actually co-exists with processing, so the two can be used together to build sketches.
(On closer inspection, what field does is provide a 'bridge' to processing's libraries- however as a coding environment it completely replaces processing's language and instead has you coding in a java implementaion of python. The documentation for field makes this sound trivial, but beyond just having cool libraries, processing is attractive to artists because it's easier to learn than most programming languages. I don't know if I'm ready to start learning python just yet. I remember how it went when I tried to learn ruby...)

From Grand Text Auto:
Inform 7 has a new website with explanatory screencasts, a new version of the development system, many parts of the toolchain now being offered as free/open-source software, and physics!

For those of you not familiar with it, Inform 7 is a breakthrough programming language based on english used to create working interactive text-based story worlds similar to text based games from the 80's like Zork, but much more advanced.

A TOUR OF MONOFONUS STUDIOS from Monofonus Press on Vimeo.

There's a few Diagonals songs in this tour of Monofonus' Studio Space by Brent Joseph. We're pretty proud to be a part of this totally awesome organization.

Sarien.net - Instant adventure gaming

Amazing- Martin Kool has ported the old Sierra adventure games like Police Quest to Javascript so that the run in a browser. I want to see a lot more of this sort of thing!

Sarien.net - Instant adventure gaming

I'd love to write a game in the oldschool adventure format. Maybe one day if I get good enough with processing, or someone releases some Mac tools that aren't flash-centric.

Superformula Teaser

update: this was nagging at me with its lameness, so I tried to spice it up with an exploding head, I like it a little better now.

I'm incubating a couple of fun things right now. Don't know if they will ever get to see the light of day. The character animation in this is lazy (ok, it sucks), but I was mainly trying to see if I could successfully incorporate a processing sketch into some regular motion graphics. Superformula is going to have a lot of procedurally generated op-art environments that are inhospitable to the cartoon characters that get stuck in, and generally ground up by them. Think of it as a psychedelic math education show where the kids get executed as a result of never being able to answer any of the questions it presents.
