Native Instruments Kore, Komplete, Reaktor @ Create Digital Music - Reimagining Reaktor, with a Multi-Touch Interface in Processing
I've been trying to explain to people why I have been learning the Processing programming language, and it's because of projects like this. If you've ever tried to use Native Instruments' Reaktor software, you know it's an almost impenetrably complicated interface, but that it's capable of facilitating some amazing musical compositions and sounds. The BricK programming team have built an amazing multi touch surface using processing that accesses Reaktor and turns it into an immediate, visual and intuative instrument.
Another set of projects that particularly caught my eye this week, SixthSensor's set of processing and wiring based educational projects, particularly Power Plant and Life-Like.

Let the Right One In

This is coming a little late, considering I missed it at this year's Fantastic Fest, but I wanted to throw my in my voice in support of Let the Right One In. It's a good film worth seeing in the theater, and one I think will be misunderstood by a lot of viewers. I'm still thinking about it enough after seeing it tonight that I'm considering looking for an English translation of the book. The movie has been written enough about online now that I won't bother with a synopsis here, watch the trailer and then go see it while it's still in theaters. What interested me most about it was the strange and sad dynamic between the two child leads, the different layers that make up their newly forming relationship- quietly insinuated rather than bluntly described. An interesting and memorable entry in a genre that is otherwise lifeless and drained of blood.

Crazy dusty week

photo property of Austinsound.net
What a crazy week. An impossible election, revelry, a birthday for me on the 6th (the same day that the company I work for got bought by AT & T) on Saturday I got to hide inside a big cardboard ghost on stage with Octopus Project for Fun Fun Fun fest, catch Deerhoof, Dan Deacon, and Neil Hamburger while coughing up clots of everpresent dust (come on guys, wet that shit down next time). Later that night Diagonals played at the Mohawk for the White Denim CD release after-party. Unfortunately we ended up going on around the same time as White Denim, so we had a pretty slim crowd (not to mention Todd broke his drum pedal right before the last song). Deerhoof hopped on stage and played a song right before Kit went on, which was kind of cool.
Saturday is supposed to be our last show till December, when we play with Trail of Dead. That means we can finally stop playing the same songs and write all new material. And hopefully I can get some other stuff done . I have been feeling creatively stagnant lately.
