Finally

Allen Klein and Alejandro Jodorowsky have finally made up and ABKCO Films is releasing El Topo, Holy Mountain and Fando y Lis on DVD. These are new transfers, not the horrible bootlegs everyone has been watching for twenty years. I'm ecstatic!

Kinda Hot, By Ben Slater

Kinda Hot, By Ben Slater I just finished my review copy of Kinda Hot, Ben Slater's book about the making of Peter Bogdanovich's film Saint Jack. The book is as much about Singapore in the 70's as it is about the film- or rather the story of the making of the film gives us a window to peer at the country during that brief period of time. It's an interesting read, even moreso if you've had the pleasure of seeing the film- Quentin Tarantino's screening in Austin at the Alamo Drafthouse is mentioned towards the end (cinephiles often get very lucky in Austin). If you haven't seen it on the big screen, you can get a DVD copy off amazon for a merciful 6 or 7 dollars (Bless you Roger Corman).

Anyway, I reccomend the book for anybody interested in film, especially the wave of films in the 70's that rode the aftershocks of the studio collapse (this is a good book to follow Easy Riders, Raging Bulls, as the subject tried to keep trailblazing as an American 'New Wave' film, even as the dawn of the blockbuster had arrived- dooming this kind of film to marginalization).

ringtonia.com: New Ad For David Lynch Ring Tones

On one level you could accuse Lynch of crass commercialism here, on another though, one of the things I've always liked about him is his ability to make something really unique in any creative outlet you give him, no matter how limited. His Lumiere movie and his art cow are good examples. Stuff other people would blow off or feel they were too good to explore, he will exploit and turn heads with the result. Plus, "my teeth are bleeding!" makes a pretty good ringtone.

Leave it to film director David Lynch to come up with the latest and strangest in ringtones, writes Wireless Week - with titles like 'Angst', 'Kill Deer', 'StampLicker', 'Teeth'... even the Web page is scary.

The Tenant, The Novel by Roland Topor - New Edition!

A new edition of The Tenant by Roland Topor is to be released in October, 2006. The book has Topor's original novel, a new introduction by Thomas Ligotti, a selection of short stories by Topor, a healthy representation of Topor's artwork, and an essay on the famous Roman Polanski film version. There is a working possibility of having Mr Polanski write a new foreword to this edition.

Dazed And Confused | The A.V. Club Rating: A

Universal may have been hoping for a lowbrow stoner comedy; while to some degree, that's what it got, the studio still abused the film from the start, following a turbulent production with a clueless theatrical release and a pair of half-assed DVDs to cash in cheaply on its wave of supporters. The Criterion edition finally offers some perspective on Linklater's accomplishment

Sorry I've been posting so much stuff about myself and Dazed on here the last few days, but I really love the new Criterion box and I am really happy about the awesome reviews it's getting. I'll get back to the regular news soon.

Leguman VS la soupière cracheuse de soupe

I'm coming close to the decision that I should give up my life and become Leguman, the vegetable-themed superhero of Roland Topor's bizarrely subversive kid's show Telechat.

Anybody in Austin know Processing?

I'm interested in designing some of my own primitive generative video programs using processing, but I know I won't be able to squeeze another damn computer skillset in my brain unless I meet someone else I can ask questions. Is anybody who reads the site working with Processing? Anybody in Austin who wants to get a cup of coffee and show me the basics, for that matter?
